Pe Palatul Societații „Astra Română“, monument istoric din Piața Rosetti, situat la intersecțIa bulevardului Carol I cu strada Hristo Botev, a apărut deja blazonul post-revolutionar al Bucurestilor, „ATENTIE, CADE TENCUIALA”. Imobilul a fost proiectat de prolificul architect Paul Smărăndescu, în stil neoromânesc, și finalizat în 1923-1924.



Paul Smărăndescu (26 iunie 1881 - stil vechi - București - 12 ianuarie 1945) a proiectat, în special în Bucuresti, vile și imobile de raport. Este arhitectul care definește cel mai bine denumirea de stil neo-românesc, o prelucrare și reconfigurare a elementelor istoriciste, după combinații proprii, personalizate. El a îmbinat tipul de bovindou de început de secol parizian cu foișorul, ca în cazul casei sale din București (1913-1914), de pe strada Luterană, o compoziție care, pentru că este asimilată sacnasiului prezent în arhitectura vernaculară locală, a fost apoi preluată și reinterpretată frecvent.
